Drone attack hits Saint Petersburg ahead of major economic forum

The governor of Saint Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, reported that several infrastructures in the city were damaged following a drone attack. However, he confirmed that there were no casualties.

The attack comes just days before the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, where Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to deliver a key speech on June 5. Around 20,000 participants from more than 130 countries are expected to attend this major three-day event, which has historically served as Russia’s main platform for attracting international investors and businesses.

According to Ukrainian officials, the strike was intended to disrupt the forum and send a strong political message. Since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, drone attacks have increased on both sides, sometimes targeting areas far from the front lines.

This incident highlights the growing use of drone warfare and rising tensions between the two countries.
